The Dark Messenger — Germanium Treble Booster
There’s something haunting about the sound of an old germanium treble booster pushing a cranked amp — the bite, the sustain, the way it transforms a clean tone into a searing wall of harmonics.
The Dark Messenger brings that sound back from the shadows.
Inspired by the classic boosters of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, it uses a hand-selected NOS Soviet MP16B germanium transistor to deliver everything from vintage sparkle to doom-laden saturation.
Whether you’re stacking it into an overdriven amp for classic rock tones, pushing fuzzes into meltdown, or tightening up a modern high-gain rig, The Dark Messenger is your secret weapon for cutting through with presence and attitude.
Vintage Heart, Modern Body
Built around a NOS Soviet germanium transistor, The Dark Messenger captures the soul of vintage treble boosters while solving their old quirks.
It runs on a standard 9V center-negative (Boss-style) power supply thanks to an internal voltage inverter — no special adapters, no polarity issues.
Inside, every component is chosen for clarity, reliability, and tone:
Alpha/Vimex potentiometer for smooth, precise control
Quality capacitors and resistors for low noise and stability
High-quality toggle switch and internal LED brightness trimmer for customization
Top-mounted Lumberg/Switchcraft jacks for pedalboard-friendly setup
Lumberg DC jack for dependable power connection
Every unit is hand-built and tested for consistent tone and feel.
Controls
Boost – Adjusts overall output level. Go from subtle edge to full-on drive.
Tone – Three-position toggle for tonal flexibility:
Left: Full-range boost — thick and wide, perfect for fattening single-coils.
Middle: Mid boost — ideal for lead tones or cutting through a dense mix.
Right: Treble boost — the classic, perfect boosting an already breaking up vintage British amp.
Note
For the most authentic response and tone, The Dark Messenger should be placed first in your signal chain, before any buffers or active pedals.
Power:
For ideal operation an isolated power supply is recommended
